At a glance

Zhangjiajie's three defining sights in two days β€” the Avatar Hallelujah Mountain pillars, Tianmen Mountain's skywalk and Heaven's Gate, and the Grand Canyon glass bridge β€” with the same private guide and driver throughout.

✦ DAY 1 β€” THE PILLARS Bailong Elevator, a 326-meter glass lift built into a vertical cliff face, takes you to the Yuanjiajie summit. Here stands the Southern Sky Column β€” the exact formation James Cameron's location scouts photographed, officially renamed Avatar Hallelujah Mountain in 2010. Walk the cliff-edge paths, cross the First Bridge Under Heaven (a natural stone arch spanning two peaks), then shuttle to Tianzi Mountain at 1,262 meters for the Imperial Writing Brush Peaks panorama. Descend through the Ten-Mile Gallery valley trail with the pillars rising directly above you. Lunch at a mountain-top Tujia restaurant. End by 5:00 PM.

✦ DAY 2 β€” THE HEIGHTS Start at the Tianmen Mountain cable car station β€” the world's longest passenger cableway at 7.5 km. The 30-minute ride climbs from downtown Zhangjiajie to the 1,518-meter summit. Up top: the cliff-edge glass skywalk bolted into the rock face at 1,430 meters, the Guigu Plank Road carved along a vertical cliff, Tianmen Temple (Tang Dynasty monastery), and the descent through the mountain via the world's longest escalator to Heaven's Gate β€” a 131.5-meter natural arch. After lunch, a 50-minute drive to the Grand Canyon glass bridge β€” 430 meters of transparent deck suspended 300 meters above the gorge. Descend for a 2 km canyon-floor walk past waterfalls and pools, ending with a boat ride across a jade-green reservoir. Return by 5:00 PM.

LOGISTICS 2 days. Day 1 starts 7:30 AM, Day 2 starts 7:30 AM. Pickup from Wulingyuan town (5 min to Forest Park, recommended) or Zhangjiajie city center (45 min to Day 1 park, but walking distance to Day 2 cable car). Same English-speaking guide and same private vehicle both days. Entrance fees are not included β€” budget 865 RMB/person total for all 4 scenic areas across both days, paid on-site. Lunch not included (Β₯40–80/person/day). Hotel accommodation is not included. Total walking: 12–15 km across both days on well-paved paths β€” Day 1 is moderate (5–7 km on cliff paths), Day 2 moderate (mountain summit walking + canyon trail). Not wheelchair accessible.

FAQ

Common questions

Which hotel area should I book?
Wulingyuan town is the best choice β€” 5 minutes from the Forest Park (Day 1). For Day 2 (Tianmen Mountain), the drive from Wulingyuan to the cable car station is about 45 minutes β€” your guide adjusts the morning pickup time. Zhangjiajie city center also works: Day 2's cable car station is right downtown, but Day 1 requires a 45-minute drive to the Forest Park. Both areas are fully covered. Accommodation is not included.
Are entrance fees included? How much should I budget?
Entrance fees are not included in the tour price. Budget 865 RMB/person total for all 4 scenic areas across both days: Forest Park 4-day pass (220 RMB), Tianmen Mountain entry + cable car (258 RMB), Grand Canyon + Glass Bridge + boat ride (219 RMB), Bailong Elevator + cable cars + park shuttles (168 RMB). Pay on-site at each scenic area β€” cash and WeChat Pay accepted. Your guide helps you purchase tickets at each entrance.
Does Day 2 feel rushed with Tianmen Mountain AND the Glass Bridge?
No β€” the timing works because Tianmen Mountain's cable car station is in downtown Zhangjiajie (no long morning drive if you stay in the city). Three hours on the summit is enough for the skywalk, temple, and Heaven's Gate at a comfortable pace. After lunch, the Grand Canyon is a 50-minute drive β€” you arrive by 1:30 PM, walk the bridge, hike the canyon, and finish the boat ride by 4:00 PM. Both sites done without rushing.
How does this 2-day tour differ from booking two separate 1-day tours?
First, same guide both days β€” they learn your pace on Day 1 and Day 2 runs more smoothly. Second, our route order is designed as a pair: Day 1 gives you the classic pillar panoramas, Day 2 takes you vertical β€” from mountaintop cable car to canyon-floor boat ride. Third, the 4-day Forest Park pass means you do not pay twice for the same park. Fourth, we time each day to stay ahead of the largest tour groups β€” the early start matters.
How physically demanding is the 2-day tour?
Day 1 involves 5–7 km of walking on paved mountain paths and cliff boardwalks, with the Bailong Elevator and cable car handling major climbs. Day 2 is similar: 4–6 km between the Tianmen summit paths and the Grand Canyon trail. Total: 12–15 km across two days. Comfortable for anyone who walks regularly. Not suitable for wheelchair users due to stairs at viewpoints and uneven sections.
Is the glass skywalk and glass bridge safe?
Yes. Both use triple-laminated tempered glass tested to hold weight far beyond what they ever carry. The glass bridge panels are 5 cm thick and the structure is rated for 800 visitors at a time. That said, if heights make you genuinely uncomfortable, your guide can take you to solid-floor viewing platforms with the same panoramic views. No one is forced onto any walkway.
What happens in bad weather?
Light rain is common in Zhangjiajie and creates dramatic mist effects between the pillars β€” some of the best photos come on cloudy days. In heavy rain or thunderstorms, the cable car, glass bridge, and Bailong Elevator may suspend operations for safety. If closures are confirmed the morning of, we will offer to reschedule the affected day or issue a refund for that day. Your guide can also suggest flexible alternatives β€” Tianmen Mountain on Day 1 if Day 2 looks worse, for example.
Can we reverse the days or adjust the route?
Yes β€” the itinerary is flexible. If rain is forecast for Day 1, your guide may suggest swapping to Day 2's plan. If you want more time at a particular viewpoint, your guide adjusts on the fly. This is your tour, not a fixed bus schedule.
What is the cancellation policy?
Free cancellation up to 48 hours before Day 1 start time. Since we purchase entrance tickets after confirming with you on the morning of Day 1, there are no upfront ticket costs at risk. Weather-related closures β€” free reschedule or full refund for the affected day.
