Enquire on WhatsAppThe Forbidden City, Mutianyu and the Terracotta Warriors each have their own day. Xi’an’s city visits are separate from the museum, with no flight afterwards.
Arrive by river, then spend a full day in village lanes and beside the Yulong River. Short walks and private transfers are the base plan.
Your local guides, sightseeing vehicles and transfers are private. The train, two flights and scheduled Li River cruise are shared; your guide accompanies the cruise.
Who it suits. Couples, friends and families visiting China for the first time who want historic sites and countryside in one trip. We discuss children’s ages, walking needs and room arrangements.
The pace. 12 days and 11 nights, including arrival and departure. Five overnight bases, one intercity train and two domestic flights. Most evenings are free. Expect steps and uneven ground at the Great Wall, Jingshan, Xi’an’s wall and the countryside paths.
Your itinerary
This itinerary can be fine-tuned to your interests and pace. Any changes, availability and the final quote are confirmed before booking.
Day 1 · Beijing
Meet your driver at the airport and transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is free to recover from the flight.
Day plan
Your driver meets you at the agreed Beijing airport and takes you to the hotel. Check in and settle in; no sightseeing depends on your flight arriving on time.
If you arrive early, you may prefer a meal or a short walk near the hotel. We can suggest nearby places. Early check-in, airport waiting arrangements and any extra driving are agreed in advance.
Private airport transfer and the first of three nights in your Beijing hotel. Sightseeing guiding and meals are not included today.
Day 2 · Beijing
Walk the palace courtyards with your guide, then see them from above at Jingshan. A short hutong walk can follow if time and energy allow.
Day plan
After breakfast, follow your guide through the open ceremonial courtyards and former living areas. The gates, halls and layout help explain how the palace worked as both a seat of government and a home.

After lunch, continue to Jingshan for a view across the palace roofs and Beijing’s north–south axis. The viewpoint has steps; lower paths offer a shorter walk. If time and energy allow, finish in the nearby hutong lanes. This is a walk through public streets, without visits inside private homes.
Tell us if you want to visit Tiananmen Square separately. We check the access requirements for your date, including whether your palace reservation covers the relevant entry arrangements.
Private guide and vehicle for the city route, standard Forbidden City and Jingshan tickets, and your Beijing hotel. Lunch and dinner are separate.
Day 3 · Beijing
A full day for Mutianyu, with a cable car to reduce the climb and a stretch of wall chosen for your walking ability. Return to Beijing for a free evening.
Day plan
Travel to Mutianyu with your driver and guide. Take the site shuttle and enclosed cable car, then walk a section of the wall that suits your mobility and the conditions. Stop at watchtowers and look at how the defences follow the ridge. The included round trip uses the same cable-car route; the chairlift and toboggan are separate services.

The cable car reduces the approach climb, but the wall still has steep, uneven steps. There is no fixed number of towers to reach. Take a lunch break at your own expense before the drive back to Beijing and a free evening.
Private guide, return vehicle, standard admission, return site shuttle and round-trip enclosed cable car when operating, plus your Beijing hotel.
Day 4 · Beijing → Xi’an
Visit the Temple of Heaven in the morning, then take first-class high-speed rail to Xi’an. Private transfers connect both stations with your hotels.
Day plan
Check out, leave your bags as arranged and visit the Temple of Heaven. Your guide explains the ceremonial buildings and their place in the park. Admission covers the open monument areas listed in your quote, rather than park entry alone.

After lunch, transfer to the station with time for passport and security checks. Take an afternoon high-speed train in first class. Your proposal names the stations, departure and seat arrangement. A local driver meets you in Xi’an and takes you to the hotel; dinner is flexible.
The temple visit must fit its monument opening days and the train departure. We agree the Beijing sequence before booking if a change is needed.
The half-day Beijing guide and visit, private transfers at both stations, first-class rail and the first of three nights in Xi’an. There is no accompanying guide on the train.
Day 5 · Xi’an
Spend the day at the Terracotta Warriors museum and return to Xi’an with time to rest. Keep the evening free or request a Tang-inspired performance.
Day plan
Travel to the Emperor Qinshihuang’s Mausoleum Site Museum. From the open visitor routes, study the figures and formations across the excavation pits. Your guide explains their place in the burial complex and the difference between restored figures and ongoing investigation.

Break for lunch near the museum at your own expense, then finish the open areas covered by your ticket. Return to Xi’an and rest. Access to working excavation areas and meetings with archaeologists are outside this visit.
Choose your own dinner and evening plans, or request a Tang-inspired stage performance in Trip options. We quote the programme, seats and evening transfers, with dinner included only if agreed.
Private guide, return vehicle, the standard museum ticket specified in your quote and your Xi’an hotel.
Day 6 · Xi’an
Visit Da Ci’en Temple, walk a short section of the Ming city wall and explore the Hui neighbourhood. There is no flight to fit around today’s visits.
Day plan
Start at Da Ci’en Temple beside the Great Wild Goose Pagoda. Your guide uses the buildings and setting to explain how religious ideas and knowledge travelled during the Tang period. The temple visit does not include a pagoda climb.

After lunch, walk a short section of the city wall and look over the streets inside it. The surviving main structure dates to the Ming period. Continue into the Hui neighbourhood, past noodle shops, bakeries and street stalls. Tastings and purchases are your choice and paid separately; mosque interiors are outside the base visit.
Take a seated break and return at a pace that suits your party. If you would rather cycle the wall than walk, request that change in Trip options.
Private guide, city vehicle, standard temple and wall admission, and your Xi’an hotel. Cycling equipment and any extra activity are quoted separately.
Day 7 · Xi’an → Guilin
Private transfers connect your hotels with the Xi’an–Guilin flight. Settle into Guilin before tomorrow’s Li River cruise.
Day plan
Check out for your flight and transfer privately to the airport. On arrival in Guilin, meet your local driver and continue to the hotel. The day is kept for travel, with no essential visit before departure.
An early arrival leaves time for an independent walk or a rest. Your hotel is chosen around tomorrow’s pier and morning transfer; a river-view room is a separate request. Before the trip, we explain boarding and the luggage handover for Yangshuo.
The domestic flight, private airport transfers in Xi’an and Guilin, and one hotel night in Guilin. Sightseeing guiding is not included today.
Day 8 · Guilin → Yangshuo
Watch limestone hills and river bends from a shared Li River cruise, accompanied by your private guide. Your main bags travel by road to the Yangshuo hotel.
Day plan
Check out and transfer to the agreed pier for the scheduled cruise towards Yangshuo. From the cabin and deck, watch the river bend between limestone hills and pass riverside settlements.
Your private English-speaking guide travels with you on the shared vessel. Cruise lunch and the guide’s ticket are included. Your proposal specifies the vessel, ticket class, seats and meal; the ship and seating areas are shared with other passengers.

Your main bags travel separately by road, with their handover and hotel receipt arranged beforehand. Keep your passport, medicines and day essentials with you. After landing, transfer to the hotel and rest. A short nearby walk is an option if arrival time and weather allow.
Guide accompaniment and ticket, shared cruise and stated lunch, pier and hotel transfers, road transfer of main luggage, and your first Yangshuo hotel night. If sailing is restricted, we agree a road alternative and handle the price adjustment under your booking terms.
Day 9 · Yangshuo
A full countryside day around Jima village and the Yulong River, with short walks linked by private vehicle. The evening is free.
Day plan
Travel with your guide towards the Yulong River. Visit Jima’s public lanes in the morning, looking at the houses from outside and how the streets are used today. After lunch and a break, drive to a short riverside section near the pier and waterwheel area. Before booking, we check the paths, surfaces, access, any fees and pickup points. You do not need to walk the full trail.

The walk follows public lanes. Homes, farm plots and agricultural work remain private; visits inside or participation would need a separate arrangement.
Break for lunch at your own expense. The afternoon walk can be shortened, or you can return earlier to the hotel if conditions or energy call for it. Your proposal describes the paths and places where the outing can be shortened.
Walking and private transfers are included. In Trip options, cycling or bamboo rafting can replace one afternoon walking segment, after checks for your party and the conditions. There is no flight connection today.
Private guide and daytime vehicle for the agreed countryside route, plus your Yangshuo hotel. Before booking, your quote states whether any required path access fees are included. The evening is free.
Day 10 · Yangshuo → Shanghai
Drive from Yangshuo to Guilin airport and fly to Shanghai. A private arrival transfer takes you to the hotel; the guided city day is tomorrow.
Day plan
Have breakfast as arranged, check out and drive to Guilin airport for your Shanghai flight. Pickup allows for the road journey, traffic, airport checks and luggage allowance. No cycling, rafting or class is scheduled before departure.
Meet your driver and transfer to the hotel. If you arrive early, you might take a short independent neighbourhood walk. The guided Bund visit is tomorrow, so you can settle in first.
The domestic flight, private airport transfers and your first Shanghai hotel night. Sightseeing guiding is not included today; lunch and dinner are separate.
Day 11 · Shanghai
Explore Yu Garden, walk the Wukang Road–Anfu Road neighbourhood, then visit the Bund. Keep the evening free or request an ERA acrobatic performance.
Day plan
Walk through Yu Garden with your guide, seeing how rocks, water, windows and corridors frame successive views. Garden admission is separate from the surrounding shopping streets. We check its opening arrangements for your date.

After lunch, start outside Wukang Mansion and walk along Wukang Road towards Anfu Road in the Former French Concession. Your guide talks through the buildings, homes and shops along this compact street route; the walk does not include private interiors. Take a break, then travel by vehicle to the Bund and compare the riverfront buildings with Pudong across the Huangpu.
After the day’s guiding, choose your own evening plans or request an ERA acrobatic performance. The show, seats and evening transfers are quoted separately; dinner is included only if agreed.
Private guide, city vehicle, standard Yu Garden entry and your Shanghai hotel are included. Yu Garden normally closes on Mondays outside statutory holidays. We must fit this visit to an open date or agree a change to timing, stay or activity, with its cost adjustment, before booking. The surrounding shops are not a substitute for the garden.
Day 12 · Shanghai
Check out and take your private airport transfer. Pickup is planned around your flight; there is no scheduled sightseeing today.
Day plan
Check out within the hotel’s normal hours and meet your driver. Pickup is planned for your airport, terminal, expected traffic and airline check-in requirements.
Breakfast depends on your flight and hotel serving hours; we can check a packed breakfast for an early departure. Late checkout, extra nights or additional driving and guiding need to be agreed and quoted beforehand.
Private departure transfer. There is no sightseeing guide or scheduled visit today; your tour ends in Shanghai.
