At Jigokudani, steaming ground and mineral-stained slopes put Noboribetsu’s bathing traditions in context. Follow the open viewing paths; the wider valley trails are not assumed accessible in winter.
Keep the fourth day close to your hotel. A short lakeside walk, time indoors and another evening at the inn give the lake more than a passing photo stop.
Who it suits. Travellers who want the hot-spring stay to be the main event, with short outdoor visits between baths rather than a long sightseeing checklist.
The pace. Five days include arrival and departure. Two nights in Noboribetsu and two at Lake Toya mean one hotel change. Icy paths may limit walks; this is not a hiking itinerary.

Day 1 · New Chitose → Noboribetsu
Meet your driver at New Chitose Airport. A short Lake Shikotsu stop can break the journey to Noboribetsu when your arrival and the roads allow.
Day plan
Travel with your luggage to Noboribetsu. We check the flight against the inn’s dinner deadline; a late arrival may require a different meal plan.
If there is sufficient daylight and safe access, pause in the lakeside visitor area. This is not a cruise or an ice-festival booking. If the flight or roads leave too little time, drive directly to the inn.
Check in for two nights. Shared hot-spring bathing and dinner are part of the proposed stay; room, meal time and bathing policies are agreed with the selected property.
Day 2 · Noboribetsu
Explore the volcanic landscape with your guide, then return to the onsen town. Keep the afternoon for bathing instead of adding a long winter excursion.
Day plan
Visit the open viewing area at Jigokudani. Your guide explains the link between the valley and the town’s hot springs. Snow and ice determine how far you walk; closed paths are not part of the route.
Choose lunch near the route with your guide’s suggestions. Lunch is paid locally. The guided service ends after the agreed morning visits and return.
Use the afternoon at your own pace, with a second dinner and night in the same property. Oyunuma walks and the natural river footbath are not promised: winter closures can prevent access.
Day 3 · Noboribetsu → Lake Toya
Leave Noboribetsu after breakfast and travel west to Lake Toya. Use the afternoon for a short lakeshore introduction before checking in for two nights.
Day plan
Meet your guide and driver for the transfer to Toyako Onsen. The road and any comfort stops are chosen for that day’s winter conditions, without a fixed mountain-road commitment.
Walk a short, maintained section of the lakeshore if footing allows. Look across the caldera lake towards its islands; cloud and snowfall may obscure the wider view. Lunch is at your own expense.
Check in, bathe and have dinner. A lake-facing room is a request, not automatic; the proposed room and bath facilities are named in your quote.
Day 4 · Lake Toya
Spend a full day at Lake Toya without changing hotels or following a fixed sightseeing timetable.
Day plan
Enjoy the hotel breakfast and shared baths, or walk on open paths near the property. This day has no guide or dedicated vehicle; check local access before heading out.
Read, rest or visit a nearby cafe independently. A Mount Usu ropeway outing can be requested in place of this free time, with transport, tickets and operating status checked separately.
Return for the proposed included dinner and a second night. The base itinerary does not include a lake cruise or seasonal fireworks.
Day 5 · Lake Toya → New Chitose
After breakfast, check out and leave with your driver for the airport. No fixed sightseeing is scheduled ahead of the flight.
Day plan
The pickup time allows for winter traffic and your airline’s check-in requirements. An early flight may require an earlier departure or a revised final-night location.
Travel to New Chitose Airport on the route appropriate to the conditions. Airport drop-off ends the arranged services; onward flights are not included.
