Journey into the mountains of Longsheng to walk among one of China's most breathtaking agricultural landscapes — the Longji (Dragon's Backbone) Rice Terraces. Your guide picks you up from your Guilin hotel for the 2.5-hour drive through rural Guangxi. Arrive at the terraces, where layer upon layer of emerald-green rice paddies climb the mountainsides, sculpted by the Zhuang and Yao ethnic minorities over 650 years. Hike the paths between Ping'an and Dazhai villages, meeting local families who still farm these terraces by hand. Visit a traditional Yao village — the women here are known for their long, uncut hair wrapped in elaborate styles. Break for lunch at a mountainside restaurant overlooking the terraces (meal at your own expense — try the bamboo rice and local mountain vegetables).
