Entry & onward travel
A connected route—not a visa guarantee
China’s 240-hour visa-free transit policy may suit eligible travellers continuing to a third country or region. A China-to-Vietnam journey must still meet the rules for your nationality, passport, permitted ports and areas, length of stay, and confirmed onward ticket.
The country or region immediately before mainland China matters too. Returning to the same country or region is not third-country transit. Check the complete flight sequence, including connections, before booking.
China’s unilateral visa exemption is a different policy: do not assume that its conditions or permitted stay are the same as visa-free transit. Vietnam’s own entry requirements must also be checked separately for your passport.
